Background:For all you theatre and Phantom fans here is a version of the mask in New Zealand jade.  The colouring of the stone varies from deep green to ochre on the nose.  There are many inclusions and some feather fractures in the stone that do not undermine the strength of the carving in any way and serve to add visual interest and character to the piece. The back has been carved away to create a thin and light mask with the eyes carved away allowing the background to show through.This piece has a three dimensional curvature giving it depth and a sculptural aspect.
